Twelfth Night (Nov 3-12, 2016)
by William Shakespeare
Produced by Maureen Holloway |Directed by Paula Worley
In 2016 the world is commemorating 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare. April 23, 2016, marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death at age 52. His plays and sonnets have been performed in nearly every major language on every continent. To mark the event, festivals, performances, and exhibitions will take place all around the world by major theater companies and small community theaters. Some will be produced in the traditional Elizabethan style, while others will present more modern-day interpretations of his work. All to celebrate the legacy of arguably the greatest playwright in the English language.
Northumberland Players are pleased to announce that their 2016 production of a Shakespearean play will be Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. Twelfth Night is Shakespeare’s most hilarious romantic comedy:
The shipwrecked Viola is determined to survive when she finds herself unexpectedly washed up on the shores of Illyria, believing her family to be lost at sea. With outrageous characters, mistaken identity and disguise, intertwined subplots of seduction and revenge, and the music and songs of Feste the Clown.
The director, Paula Worley, directed Macbeth last year and A Midsummer’s Night Dream in 2014. Paula has extensive experience as a Shakespearean director and has directed for her own company, Shakespeare Street Theatre, for many years before joining Northumberland Players.
Northumberland Players strives to include youth in all aspects of theare production. There are several younger – but seasoned – actors in Twelfth Night: Aurielle Diotte, Ireland Farrell, Shane McGovan, and Oliver Graf making his acting debut after working on the technical side of several productions.
Twelfth Night will be performed with Elizabethan costumes, thanks to designer Ann Hancock and the resources of the Costume House, and staging on a traditional thrust stage: enjoy an authentic slice of Shakespeare close to home!
Suitable for 14+.
