Northumberland Players has been a thriving community theatre for 41 years. The directors are willing and committed individuals who participate in the decision-making and share responsibilities for the on-going management of a company with 100 members and over 300 volunteers. That’s what makes us great and enables us to produce many successful productions each year in several venues in Northumberland County, Ontario.
You can read about the various responsibilities at Board of Directors. Directors attend monthly Board meetings where decisions are made, submit monthly reports, keep up to date by reading the reports of other directors, and take on one of the responsibilities according to their interests, skills, and/or desire to learn. Some directors serve for one term, but others return for multiple terms. The By-Law was amended in 2016 to provide two-year terms with half of the directors being elected each year to ensure continuity. Therefore there will be 6 vacancies to fill this year and 5 members continuing into the second year of their terms. Some directors may choose to run again, but we need new people on the Board.
Managing the Players is a big responsibility and a lot of work but it is also an excellent opportunity to determine where the company will be going in the future. Because of the timing of the elections, the Board’s first major responsibility is to plan the next season, so a full Board is needed to be prepared to make the right decisions. This is a working Board and everyone takes on a responsibility for getting things done, either by themselves or by delegating to a team.
Nominate someone as a member of the Board of Directors. It is never easy finding candidates for the Board of Director but you can help. Why not nominate someone who you think would make a fine Member of the Board of Directors? Or consider asking someone to nominate you. Both nominee and nominators must be members in good standing when they sign the NP Board Nomination Form.18-19.
Scan and email the Nomination Form to Jack Boyagian, President, (2017-19) at email@example.com.
And, if someone from the Nominations Committee taps you on the shoulder, why not say, “Yes, I will” this year.
