Northumberland Players provides opportunities to engage in all aspects of quality theatre – it is our mission. Northumberland Players was formed by actors and backstage people who had a passion for live theatre and continues to be a progressive and engaging community theatre. It is a company that is run by its membership for the purpose of presenting seasons that provide diverse artistic challenges for our members and volunteers to develop their interests, talents and skills in front of an audience.
Membership gives you a voice in how the company is run. Members participate in the operation of Northumberland Players, they vote at the Annual General Meeting in November, and are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors to make the big decisions about the next season. Members are invited to members-only events. They also receive monthly e-Blasts keeping them informed of events at Northumberland Players.
At the Annual General Meeting you will receive reports on the activities of the Players over the past year, hear about current events, and be invited to participate in decisions concerning the coming year. You will elect and meet the new members of the Board of Directors. You can meet old and new Players friends at the social afterwards in the Blair Room.
This year, you will be able to admire the new curtains and the long-awaited lighting grid that have been installed in the Founders’ Theatre. Please come.
Nominate Someone as a Member of the Board of Directors
You can read about the various responsibilities at Board of Directors. The introduction of staggered two-year terms 2 years ago was intended to provide some continuity and some support for new Board members. Therefore there will be 6 vacancies to fill this year and 5 members continuing into the second year of their terms. Some directors may choose to run again, but we do need new people on the Board every year.
Because of the timing of the elections, the Board’s first major responsibility is to plan the next season, so a full Board is needed to be prepared to make the right decisions. This is a working Board and everyone takes on a responsibility for getting things done, either by themselves or by delegating to a team.
It is never easy finding candidates for the Board of Directors. Why not nominate someone who you think would make a fine Member of the Board of Directors? Or consider asking someone to nominate you. Both nominee and nominators must be members in good standing when they sign the NP Board Nomination Form 18-19.
Scan and email the Nomination Form to Jack Boyagian, President, (2017-19) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And, if someone from the Nominations Committee taps you on the shoulder, why not say, “Yes, I will” this year.
