Jack Boyagian, President and Artistic Director

What an incredible season we had last year: we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a great Gala, Forever Plaid closed to near sold out shows in an incredible run at the Best Western, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat entertained capacity crowds of all ages, Jenny’s House of Joy and Vanya and Sonia Masha and Spike had us think, feel, and laugh. Proof, Twelfth Night, The 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol, Waiting for the Parade, and Once Upon a Rocking Chair showed audiences the wonderfully diverse theatre experience that is possible in the intimate Firehall Founders’ Theatre.

Northumberland Players Youth theatre was also successful as The Jungle Book performed to packed houses at Victoria Hall.

And not to be outdone, our fabulous Costume House volunteers celebrated Canada’s 150th with a sell-out fashion show at Victoria Hall that was a huge success.

Our immensely talented performers and crews continue to create high-quality community theatre that is recognized as being some of the best offered in the province. We are very proud that our production of Waiting for the Parade won awards at Theatre Ontario Festival, after winning Best Production and Best Director (Brenda Worsnop) at the Eastern Ontario Theatre Drama League Festival.

So what is planned for you this upcoming season? Our offering is perhaps packed with more laughter than past seasons with three hilarious farces at the Best Western, two comedies at the Firehall, a very fun Youth Theatre musical at Victoria Hall, and a soulful comedy musical at the Cameco Capitol Arts Centre. We top this off with a classic Canadian drama and the most famous tragic love story of all. There is something for everyone – patrons, actors, and volunteers alike. We end the season with an evening of one-act plays at the Firehall Theatre – for the first time in ten years. We believe you will once again fall in love with the one-act genre.

So actors, start looking at the Northumberland Players website for audition notices which will be posted soon for the first two plays. And be sure to follow us on Facebook for updates. Volunteers, join in the magic by getting involved. Directors and producers will be looking for creative, energetic and engaged people to join the teams.

Audition notices are posted on the front page of the website and at Auditions for Northumberland Players.
